Codiagro awarded at the 1st World Congress on Biostimulants
A poster-size publication of an experiment from Codiagro in partnership with Castellon's Jaume I University was picked as the winner for "best scientific poster" at the 1st World Congress on Biostimulants, held at the French city of Strasbourg.
The experiment demonstrates the positive influence on the reduction of fruit abscission in Clemenules when treated with Agroxigreen-Mg®, from Codiagro, which has a powerful biostimulant effect due to its high content of AMEC® modified organic acids.
Ricardo Pérez-Santamarina Ferrer, technical director, accepted the award in representation of Codiagro.Enlarge poster by clicking here.
Various physiological parameters of both plant and fruit were evaluated. The results showed that the treatment with the product considerably reduced citrus fruit abscission. This can be significantly beneficial in the growing of crops suffering problems in the setting stage and/or adverse weather conditions. The data shows that the product appeared to cause its beneficial effect through the induction, directly or indirectly, of the accumulated carbohydrates in the fruit.
The treatment improves the photosynthetic capacity of trees, leading to better photoassimilate transport from the leaves (source) to the developing fruits (sump). To demonstrate this effect, the carbohydrate concentration in tomato plant leaves treated with the product was quantified. Two tests were conducted showing a similar tendency. The treatment with AGROXIGREEN-Mg® had a stimulant effect on the synthesis of carbohydrates in the leaves. The results show that the concentration of glucose, fructose, sucrose and starch improved, although the latter did it more moderately. There was also a reduction in the content of leaf stress-inducing hormones (abscisic acid, jasmonic acid and salicylic acid) in trees under treatment, which would indicate that AGROXIGREEN-Mg® stimulates plant metabolism and consequently also improves the physiological condition of plants.
In sum, we can conclude that a treatment with AGROXIGREEN-Mg® from CODIAGRO can be effectively used to prevent physiological drop (also called June drop) of citrus fruits and can do likewise with most other crops.
AGROXIGREEN-Mg® is a product exclusively manufactured in Spain and the brand is registered by Codiagro. Under this denomination it is sold in the great majority of countries, except for Peru and Chile, where AGROXIGREEN-Mg® is commercialised as MAGNIFIC®-FIX.
