Natural compotes have great growth potential in Spain

Charles & Alice Natural Compotes are a new healthy and easy way to eat fruit anytime, made with 100% fruit and no sugar added.

Stadium Innovation, distributor of Charles Faraud and Charles & Alice, was the first firm to introduce fruit compotes in the market, in the year 2007. "Back then nobody was producing compote in Spain, and although many new brands are appearing now, it is still a market with potential. For 6 years we have experienced an annual growth of more than 10%, but this year we believe sales will double," explains Isabel Molano, of Stadium Innovation.

A container of Charles & Alice Compote equals a portion of fruit of the 5 a day recommended by nutritional experts. They are rich in fibre, improve intestinal transit, provide energy and strengthen the bones. They are also a great source of minerals and contain antioxidants which prevent ageing and heart diseases.

Apple, Fig and Apple-Pear flavour compotes

Despite being in the market for years, compotes are not always a product of choice for dessert. "Spain does not traditionally consume this type of dessert, as people think of them as baby food. In the rest of Europe, like in France, for example, consumption of these products is about 20 times larger. The product is now starting to grow and we hope it reaches France's consumption levels," affirms Isabel.

One of the keys to improve the demand for compotes, according to Isabel, is comfort and wishing to have a healthy diet. "Nowadays people have less time to wash, peel or slice fruit. These compotes are very easy to eat; only a spoon is needed, they do not need refrigeration, can be taken anytime and anywhere. It is a healthy product."

Thanks to their packaging, compotes have a durability of 9 months without refrigeration. They are fat free, have no sugar added, no gluten, no lactose, only fruit. "It is just like home-made compote."

Apple-Mango and Apple-Pineapple flavour compotes

Now Stadium Innovation is launching new designs in transparent containers for all 6 flavours: Apple, Apple-Plum, Apple-Fig, Apple-Pear, and the two new ones, Apple-Mango and Apple-Pineapple. "The two new flavours with pineapple and mango are being very successful and have become the most demanded by far," says Isabel Molano.

This product can be found in the fruit section of all the main supermarkets, such as Alcampo, Bonpreu, Caprabo, El Corte Inglés, Eroski, Guzmán Gastronomía, Lukas Benta-Berri, Solves, Spermercats Montserrat and Unide. Condis was the latest chain to incorporate the product to its 170 shops and we hope new clients to do likewise shortly," she concludes.
