s an exporter of Australian citrus, that has been in operation since 1987. The company's main markets are in Asia, traditionally in North and South East, but increasingly into South Asia and also, the Middle East. They are also looking to expand operations into India currently. Directors Doug Hammonds and Glyn Parry lead export and import teams of specialist marketers. The export team is headed up by Saxon Call. Saxon has 15 years experience in the industry having previously worked as a field buyer and quality assurer for large retailers.
Speaking of this year's citrus harvest Saxon says that, broadly speaking, this season has been in line with expectations.
"Navel orange sales were strong," he says. "Sales wee more than double last year, which was itself nearly double the year before."
Japan was the main destination for the navels Saxon reveals, though that there were good sales throughout Asia, the Middle East and the Pacific.
"Quality was, on the whole, sound," he says, "although there were issues at the end of the Washington season with softer fruit, until late lanes commenced.
"The season ran longer than usual, with exports continuing until November. This was a result of selected firm end of season fruit holding up well. It will sell until the entry of US navels in December."
Minneolas, he says, did not see an increase in sales, but were in line with last year.
"Though there was a rise in Afourer volumes, which was only to be expected as extended planting areas begin to come into stream."
"Mandarin exports were down slightly, though this was partially due to our caution in supplying directly to China."
the Valencia season, he says, started strongly, with consistent exports of up to a dozen containers per week.
"This is starting to slow now, as exports to Japan are all but finished for the year."
