Kosovo reports 1,000 hectares of raspberries

The acting Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, addressed the 10th Raspberry Conference organised by the Kosovo Raspberry Association, an event that gathered more than 350 participants, including farmers, exporting companies, institutions, and international partners. About 30 growers from Albania also attended to observe raspberry production models used in Kosovo.

Kurti noted that the small fruit sector, including raspberries, strawberries, and blueberries, is recording steady growth, supported by new market access, more stable prices, and long-term contracts. He stated that this performance is tied to a consolidated chain of production, processing, and export, along with cooperation among farmers, associations, institutions, and international partners.

Current berry plantings in Kosovo include around 1,000 hectares of raspberries and 180 hectares of blueberries. The sector generates around 10 million euros, or approximately US$10.9 million, and supports more than 2,500 jobs along the production and processing chain.

Kurti highlighted government priorities focused on financing for production and processing, improved access to markets, and standardised certifications. He pointed to the role of the Kosovo Raspberry Association in linking farmers with markets and European standards.

He stated that the government will continue supporting the sector and added that it intends to be a partner and facilitator to ensure growers' production secures appropriate market value.
