Fresh CPK could reshape Poland’s horticultural logistics

Dominika Kozarzewska, President of the Polskie Jagody Producers Group and Poland's representative in the International Blueberry Organization, highlights that a specialized Fresh CPK terminal within the Central Communication Port could become a key driver for the development of Poland's fruit and vegetable exports.

She notes that today Polish exporters rely on airports such as Amsterdam and Frankfurt, which increases logistics costs and shifts part of the value chain abroad. A domestic terminal dedicated to fresh produce would lower costs, improve access to foreign markets, and provide the "gateway to the world" that the sector currently lacks. Kozarzewska stresses that the terminal should be integrated into a broader logistics system, combining air, rail, and road transport and serving all regions of the country.

According to her, Poland's central location could become a major competitive advantage in the European supply chain, particularly after the expected end of the war in Ukraine and expected changes in east–west trade. She emphasizes that the infrastructure of this scale must be planned years in advance: preparation cannot begin only after new market demand appears.

Kozarzewska points to the berry sector as proof that long-term planning and coordinated action produce measurable results. Nearly a decade ago, producers defined a multi-year strategy, which contributed to doubling Poland's blueberry consumption within five years. The campaign evolved from blueberry promotion to the "Time for Polish Superfruits" program, now covering 13 berry crops and creating a continuous promotional sequence throughout the year. Presenting growers as the faces of the industry built consumer trust and strengthened the category.

She states that such outcomes did not result from short-term campaigns but from consistent actions based on clear long-term goals. A similar approach, she argues, could be applied to increasing national fruit and vegetable consumption, built around the "half-the-plate" concept.

Within this broader context, Fresh CPK is seen as a natural and necessary component of market development. Kozarzewska concludes that the terminal could reduce export costs, improve the global availability of Polish products, strengthen Poland's logistics role between East and West, and create a solid foundation for future sector growth, provided the industry maintains strategic thinking and long-term consistency.
