German BLE week 47:

'The supply of Spanish oranges expanded significantly, which inevitably led to price reductions in many places'

Spanish oranges dominated the market, mostly Navelina, which were now mainly available in 16- and 10-kg boxes. Larger fruit sizes were also available. The availability of Spanish fruit expanded significantly, which inevitably led to price reductions in many places.

The continued presence of South African competition, which was noticeably cheaper than European products, also caused difficulties in sales. From Italy came Navelina oranges, which were offered with leaves in 9 and 10-kg cartons. In Hamburg, they cost up to EUR 20 per 10 kg package.

Newhall apples came from Portugal and, like Greek Valencia Late apples, had a complementary status. Although temperatures had dropped, demand did not really pick up: it was not possible to clear the stock completely. Prices, therefore, tended to be slightly lower in numerous instances.

Apples
Domestic deliveries continuously dominated the range. Demand was quite favorable, but could be met without any problems everywhere. The usual fluctuations were recorded in terms of prices.

Pears
Italian loads dominated in the form of Abate Fetel, Santa Maria, and Williams Christ. Their sales period was coming to an end, which was reflected in reduced availability and lower grades.

Table grapes
The wet and cold weather reduced storage capacity. With the start of Peruvian imports, the range of goods expanded slightly, but this had no significant impact on prices.

Small citrus fruits
As a result of increased deliveries, especially from Spain, retailers often had to lower their previous prices.

Lemons
Spanish Primofiori dominated the market. At times, they were available on an almost monopolistic basis. Their inconsistent quality led to a wide price range in some places.

Bananas
Marketing was uneventful. Supply and demand were generally in harmony.

Cauliflower
Domestic loads predominated, but their quality was no longer entirely convincing. Increased deliveries of French products were met with greater demand in this regard.

Lettuce
Spanish lettuce loads were almost monopolistic. The quality of the Spanish produce was not entirely convincing, which is why a wide price range established itself in many places.

Cucumbers
Spanish loads dominated the scene. Deliveries from the Netherlands and Belgium were apparently limited: the end of the season is approaching.

Tomatoes
The wide range of products met with a thoroughly favorable demand, which could be easily satisfied. In terms of price, there were the usual fluctuations, but no major outliers were recorded.

Bell peppers
Spanish supplies dominated, flanked by Turkish imports. The prices of Spanish loads rose gradually, in some cases quite significantly.
