The Ecuadorian banana sector ended October showing signs of stabilization after months of decline, reports the AEBE Statistical Bulletin. From January to October 2025, banana exports totaled 315.26 million boxes, a 3.40% increase compared to the same period in 2024.
After reaching its highest growth in May (+5.89%), the sector experienced a decline that lasted until September, when the cumulative change dropped to 3.33%. However, October showed a slowdown, with a slight rebound bringing the rate back to 3.40%, indicating a modest recovery in export activity.

The October rebound was closely linked to the performance of the European and Russian markets. In Russia, the annual growth rate rose from 14.9% in September to 16.9% in October, suggesting increased output absorption. Similarly, the European Union saw a slight uptick from 6.61% to 6.97% over the same period.
These changes confirm a renewed demand from both regions, which had been more subdued in recent months. The uptick in purchases helped sustain export momentum despite ongoing global market challenges.
Other regions also contributed to overall growth. The Middle East experienced a 12.7% increase, and the United States saw a 7.3% rise, indicating steady but slower growth compared to Europe and Russia. Meanwhile, regions such as Africa, Central Asia, the United Kingdom, and Oceania continued to decline, showing that the recovery remains uneven and concentrated in select markets.

In October, weather conditions in the country's banana-producing areas improved, leading to a recovery in productivity. This boost enhanced harvesting, ripening, and shipping processes. The increased stability in the fields, aligned with higher international demand, especially in Europe and Russia, resulted in a more favorable export environment.
Despite a slight recovery, the sector remains cautious amid ongoing logistical and weather-related challenges and uneven market performance. However, the rebound seen in October is a positive sign for year-end, even as the context still requires strategic focus from producers and exporters.
