A few years ago, Wonderful Seedless Lemons were introduced. While initially grown in Southern California, production has in the meantime expanded into Central California and Mexico. "The majority of our current supply comes from California, spread across the major lemon growing districts," says Zak Laffite, President of Wonderful Citrus. This covers U.S. demand from October through early June. Additionally, the company invested heavily in complementary supply in Mexico with orchards that recently began producing fruit in 2025, enabling year-round supply. To hedge even further, sourcing partners in South Africa provide volume during key gap periods.
Lemon harvest exceeds expectations
California lemon harvest is in full swing and supply has been strong this season. While recent rain events have disrupted the picking schedule, no significant impact has been witnessed on quality. "Our crop continues to remain in favorable condition," mentioned Laffite. Conditions are being monitored closely, but the team is prepared to adapt to any weather, supported by innovative farming practices.

30 percent growth in demand
Demand for lemons continues to be strong and over the past five years, lemons have been one of the fastest-growing segments in the citrus category, second only to mandarins. With more consumers cooking at home and prioritizing healthier foods with real nutritional value, lemons deliver the functional benefits and convenience consumers are looking for. "Despite being limited by supply constraints, seedless lemon consumption has grown more than 30 percent this past year." Household penetration has increased by the same trend. In addition to their health benefits, the novelty of offering lemons without pesky seeds makes the product more exciting and approachable for everyday use. "For that reason, our seedless lemons continue to lead the charge in innovation."

Distribution expansion
Wonderful Citrus remains focused on expanding the presence of seedless lemons on shelves across the nation. This is the second year the product is available year-round and nationwide at major retailers including Costco, Trader Joe's, and Kroger, among others. As more consumers discover the benefits and convenience of seedless lemons, Wonderful Citrus will continue to expand its supply. "Our seedless lemons remain the current leader in the bagged lemon category, contributing 100 percent of the growth for the past three years in a row." By offering 1 lb., 2 lb., 3 lb., and 5lb. bags, seedless lemons are a great solution for heavy lemon users and consumers seeking convenience as they take the hassle out of slicing, squeezing, and cooking, making them an ideal ingredient for quick and easy weeknight meals.
Wonderful Citrus is steadfast in its commitment to continuing market expansion and consumer education, ensuring shoppers understand the full benefits of the product. "Our lemons continue to captivate heavy lemon users, driving strong market share gains year after year. It is our goal to have 25 percent category market share in the U.S. in the next 15 years," closed Laffite.
