HydroHunter Italia, an Italian company that deals with underground water research, recently completed a complex mission in the United Arab Emirates on the border with Oman, which ended with good news, i.e., the identification of a fracture potentially containing water.
"The client had a strong need to know whether there was water available in their plots of land, even with a minimum flow rate," explains contact person Vincenzo Orso. "After a quick correspondence to clarify the activity, logistical organisation, and costs of the mission, the project was confirmed. We thus scanned about 7 hectares of land up to a depth of 180 m. The foreign mission lasted just under 48 hours."

The search for water is based on a method that combines remote investigation and field verification. The technology used by HydroHunter Italia exploits satellite analysis, which initially provides a precise indication of the area where the possible water fracture is located. Later, when the operators visited the site, the two graphs confirmed the existence of the two fractures previously identified.
"The reliability of this method proves to be constant, as was the case in previous months in several Italian regions, where we reported high probabilities of finding water in the scanned portions. The findings were confirmed after drilling."

Although the technology guarantees the identification of geological faults, the quality of the water found, and therefore how ideal it is for agriculture, is unknown. "At the very least, we have provided customers with values that allow them to assess whether to start drilling. In this case, the Emirates customer will drill two boreholes at the indicated locations."
The effectiveness of the system is also confirmed in extreme environmental conditions. "When you communicate to a customer or contractor a success rate of over 80% probability of finding water, you are providing a figure that is extremely high in the context of an operational investment. This percentage makes the calculated risk largely acceptable, especially when considering the technology used."
"A minimum risk is unavoidable. However, the combination of high probability of discovery and a proven accuracy in locating the water structure makes the investment strategic and profitable for contractors."
