AgroFresh adds AI and imaging tools to FreshCloud platform

AgroFresh Solutions, Inc., a global provider of post-harvest freshness management technologies, has announced two new partnerships to expand its FreshCloud digital ecosystem. The collaborations with Aerobotics and Neolithics aim to enhance digital quality monitoring and data integration across the fresh produce supply chain.

The FreshCloud platform aggregates real-time data from multiple sources, supporting decision-making from orchard to retail. AgroFresh stated that the new partnerships build on its existing work with sensor technology companies Rubens Technologies, Strella, and Escavox, as part of efforts to strengthen post-harvest management and data connectivity.

Bradford Warner, Head of Digital Solutions at AgroFresh, said: "By integrating partners like Aerobotics and Neolithics, FreshCloud now connects orchard-to-packhouse intelligence like never before."

Aerobotics integration for yield and quality monitoring
Through its partnership with Aerobotics, AgroFresh will integrate the company's TrueFruit modules into FreshCloud, offering AI-based orchard and packhouse analytics. The technology uses computer vision and AI to measure fruit size, color, and quality from smartphone imagery, allowing growers to improve harvest planning, size forecasting, blemish detection, and color grading.

The system standardizes measurements from the orchard to the packhouse, helping to consolidate yield data and improve decision-making. Aerobotics reports that its TrueFruit tools can help optimize packouts and provide measurable improvements in yield management.

James Paterson, CEO of Aerobotics, said: "We are excited to partner with AgroFresh to offer TrueFruit to more customers and combine the power of our technology with FreshCloud. Together, these solutions extend insights from the orchard into the post-harvest stage, providing continuity of data and enhancing decisions across the value chain."

Neolithics integration for non-destructive inspection
The integration of Neolithics' imaging technology brings AI-powered quality control capabilities to the FreshCloud platform. The system uses high-speed, non-destructive imaging to assess both internal and external fruit quality. It can process volumes ranging from one kilogram per minute for berries to more than six tons per hour for avocados, while measuring key parameters such as brix, acidity, and dry matter.

According to Neolithics, the technology achieves above 90% accuracy in identifying defects and quality parameters without damaging the product.

Kate Murray, CEO of Neolithics, said: "We want to enable customers to protect their produce through high-volume, non-destructive quality inspections by reducing waste and creating greater transparency from field to shelf."

AgroFresh said these additions position FreshCloud to serve as a broader digital platform for monitoring produce quality and supply chain performance, supporting efficiency and traceability across post-harvest operations.
