German BLE week 43:

'Price increases for domestic, Dutch, and Belgian cucumbers'

The Central European cucumber season was coming to an end: deliveries from Germany were limited, and Belgian and Dutch shipments also lost momentum in some areas. Greek supplies arriving in Munich were quickly absorbed. Spanish supplies gained strength and were mostly able to fill the gaps in supply quickly. According to the German BLE, domestic prices often rose, and customers also had to dig deeper into their pockets for Belgian and Dutch produce. Spanish loads also became pricier despite increased availability. The presence of Spanish products grew in the mini cucumber segment: they flanked the leading Dutch products. Domestic and Turkish goods complemented the market.

Apples
Domestic offers prevailed, with Elstar, Jonagold, Boskoop, and Braeburn forming the basis of the supply. Demand was relatively weak, and accommodation options were quite limited due to the fall holidays.

Pears
The range was quite diverse, and availability was sufficient to meet demand. There were no significant changes in prices.

Table grapes
Italian deliveries dominated, with Italia, Red Globe, and Crimson Seedless being the most readily available. The quality was no longer consistently impressive, which is why sellers often had to accept discounts.

Small citrus fruits
Availability increased significantly: Spanish products dominated both the clementine and satsuma markets, followed by Italian and a few Turkish loads. Imports from the Southern Hemisphere continued to lead the way for mandarins.

Lemons
Spanish shipments had overtaken South African shipments in terms of volume. Demand was met without difficulty.

Bananas
Business was uneven but always calm.

Cauliflower
Domestic supplies continued to set the tone, even though their presence had declined slightly. Belgian deliveries followed in terms of importance.

Lettuce
The domestic season for outdoor lettuce is coming to an end. However, Belgian loads were available to fill any gaps in supply.

Tomatoes
Prices were mixed, with discounts as well as rising prices. However, no clear trend was discernible.

Bell peppers
Spanish and Dutch offers formed the basis of the supply. Turkey participated primarily with green products, while red ones played a rather minor role.
