Pacific recalls Italian parsley over Salmonella risk

Pacific International Marketing has issued a recall of 474 cases of bulk Italian parsley over potential Salmonella contamination, according to a company announcement on October 28, 2025. The product was distributed to wholesalers in Arizona, California, Florida, Minnesota, Michigan, Georgia, Ohio, and Nevada between September 22 and September 25, 2025.

The recalled parsley was sold in bulk cases containing either 30 or 60 bunches with a twist tie, and in 24-count bags with twist ties intended for wholesale distribution. The UPC for the 30- and 60-count bunches is 40695 80125, while the UPC for the 24-count bags is 40695 80120. The shelf life of the product was 18 days from harvest, which would have expired around October 10, 2025.

The company reported that a sample collected on October 6 tested positive for Salmonella. While the product is not expected to remain available to consumers due to its limited shelf life, officials noted that contamination risk may persist if the parsley was frozen.

Salmonella can cause serious infections, particularly in young children, elderly individuals, and people with weakened immune systems. Symptoms may include fever, diarrhea (sometimes bloody), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In rare cases, the infection can spread to the bloodstream, leading to more severe conditions such as arterial infections, endocarditis, or arthritis. Symptoms typically develop within 12 to 72 hours after exposure and may last up to a week.

No illnesses have been reported so far. Pacific International Marketing is cooperating with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in its investigation and has begun an internal review. Businesses that received the affected product have been notified.

Consumers who may still have the recalled parsley are advised to discard it or return it to the place of purchase for a refund.
