Apple prices drop up to 18% as UK berry market holds steady

Prices for several UK apple and pear varieties declined this week, while soft fruit values remained mostly unchanged, according to the latest market data.

Among apples, Egremont Russet recorded the sharpest decrease, dropping by 18% to £1.19/kg from £1.46/kg last week. Braeburn prices fell 5% to £1.31/kg, while Bramley's Seedling and Cox's Orange Group declined slightly to £1.25/kg and £1.18/kg respectively. Gala apples held firm at £1.23/kg, unchanged week-on-week.

For pears, Conference prices decreased by 9% to £1.11/kg, down from £1.22/kg the previous week, while Doyenne du Comice remained stable at £1.16/kg, showing a minor 1% decrease.

Soft fruit trends were mixed. Blackberries fell 4% to £14.67/kg, and Raspberries dropped 8% to £12.15/kg. Blueberries held steady at £12.18/kg, maintaining previous levels. Strawberries also saw a small decline of 1% to £4.39/kg.

Overall, the data indicate downward pressure on pome fruit prices, while berry prices have remained relatively stable heading into the final quarter of the year.
