The Peras de Rincón de Soto PDO harvested 19.3 tons of pears this year

The Protected Designation of Origin Peras de Rincón de Soto wrapped up its harvest season this year with "exceptional quality," according to the Denomination of Origin. The total harvest reached 19,305,313 kilograms.

The PDO's technical services, who have a positive assessment of the season's progress, believe the decline in the harvest was caused by fire blight and by weather events such as hail.

The central offices of the designation have already started selling this year's pears, which have been well received by both intermediaries and consumers. In light of current demand, the Board has already launched new promotional activities. On October 9th, an event was held at Mercasevilla (Mercados Centrales de Abastecimientos de Sevilla, S.A.). This market, which supplies fresh food to Seville and its surrounding areas, hosted a PDO presentation for traders. Sixto Cabezón, head of the Regulatory Body's technical services, delivered a presentation on the PDO and then held various meetings and working sessions with the participants.

Considering the quality of its product, the PDO regarded the event as "very positive and a novelty in its usual activities.' Its managers also confirmed that "it marks a new step in expanding and increasing pear sales across Andalusia, especially in Seville."
