Summerfruit NZ participated in a New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) delegation to India in September, building on earlier trade engagement between the two countries.
According to Summerfruit NZ Commercial Manager Raj Singh, the visit provided opportunities for direct discussion with Indian counterparts and greater visibility for New Zealand's summerfruit sector alongside other fresh produce categories such as apples and kiwifruit.

The delegation was part of New Zealand's presence at World Food India, where the country hosted a national pavilion to promote agricultural collaboration and market development. "Part of the attraction of New Zealand summerfruit is that it is counter-seasonal to India's supply, so we would not be competing with local growers," Singh said.
Negotiations toward a potential Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between New Zealand and India are ongoing. The agreement could provide tariff relief and establish clearer standards for Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) on imported fruit.
Singh added that discussions have also included the possibility of technology transfer between the two countries, although these remain at an early stage.
