EICCA 2025

Ibero-American garlic organizations collaborate for a shared future

The Ibero-American Meeting on Garlic Science and Cultivation (EICCA 2025) has concluded after two busy days, transforming the town of Pulpí into the global hub for a crop that is both strategically and socially important: garlic. Over 300 professionals, researchers, producers, and marketers from various Ibero-American countries gathered to share knowledge. This event emphasized garlic's significance to the economy, rural communities, and the lives of thousands of families across the Atlantic.

The meeting stood out for its high-quality and diverse presentations, which covered topics ranging from innovative cultivation techniques to the analysis of key challenges and threats in the sector, as well as future prospects through research, technology, and international collaboration. Experts discussed plant health, sustainable production systems, market expansion opportunities, and the importance of enhancing differentiation and value addition for this vital crop.

EICCA emphasizes that garlic is more than just an agricultural commodity; it is a social crop deeply rooted in culture, capable of creating stable, quality jobs in rural regions and significantly aiding in population retention where agriculture is the main economic activity engine.

Both the Spanish National Association of Garlic Producers and Marketers (ANPCA) and the sponsoring companies highly praised the event, noting strong participation, diverse perspectives, and excellent content. Juan Salvador Peregrín, ANPCA president, stated, "Events like this are vital for shaping a shared future, as they enable us to exchange experiences, learn from other countries, and collaborate on solutions."

Held in Pulpí, this first edition of EICCA has established itself as a key international forum, crucial for collaboratively tackling current and future garlic industry challenges. The strong turnout and significant media and sectoral coverage have motivated the organizers to begin preparations for the next meeting, which will soon unite the Ibero-American garlic community once again.

ANPCA emphasized that the commitment is clear: to keep enhancing this platform for dialogue and cooperation, ensuring that garlic, a crop with centuries of history, remains a catalyst for economic, social, and cultural growth across all the regions where it is cultivated.

EICCA 2025 demonstrated that the future of the sector depends on science, innovation, and international collaboration. It has also planted the seed of a project in Pulpí that is expected to expand significantly in the years ahead.
