Jac. Vandenberg, Inc. is preparing for a milestone celebration at this year's International Fresh Produce Association's Global Produce & Floral Show. The family-owned and operated import company is marking its 120th anniversary with a major debut at one of the industry's most anticipated events.
Founded in 1905 in Groningen, The Netherlands, the company has remained committed to three core pillars throughout its history: family, freshness, and innovation. More than a century later, those values continue to shape the company's growth and leadership within the produce industry.
"As a family business, we have something that can't be replicated by large corporate players - generational knowledge," said John Paap, manager at Jac. Vandenberg. "There's a thread connecting us to the family members who came before, a depth of experience built through relationships and lived history. It's not something you can learn in a classroom. It's our secret ingredient, and it's been central to our success."
That foundation has fueled Vandenberg's role in the industry. The company was among the first to import Chilean produce to the U.S., early adopters of Country of Origin labeling and the Produce Traceability Initiative, and innovators in sustainable packaging solutions. In 2017, it introduced Sunrays® - one of the industry's first giveback brands - designed to deliver more than great taste. With every purchase, consumers support brighter futures for children, promote sustainability, and connect with the growers' stories. The company proudly calls Sunrays "the snack with impact."

"When we launched the Sunrays brand in 2017, we wanted it to be more than just another produce brand. We wanted it to represent impact and purpose," Paap said. "Now, we're taking that vision further. By extending Sunrays across our entire citrus lineup, consumers and retailers can snack with impact no matter their citrus of choice. Because making the world better shouldn't be limited."
The new Sunrays citrus line will debut in Anaheim, giving attendees an exclusive first look at the expanded range. Visitors will see how the program blends design, sustainability, and purpose - while learning how to integrate it into their own retail programs.
Since its launch, Sunrays has donated more than $700,000 to Save the Children and prevented over 63,000 pounds of plastic waste from reaching landfills.
