Between January 1 and May 27, 2025, over 17,000 tons of fruit were imported into Russia's Kaliningrad Region, according to Mangazeya News Agency. That's 10% less than during the same period in 2024, when 19,000 tons were brought in.
Citrus fruits accounted for a significant share of the imports, 5,800 tons, arriving from Argentina, Brazil, South Africa, Turkey, Egypt, Israel, and Morocco. Another 11,000+ tons consisted of various fruits, including:
- 4,800 tons of apples and pears from Argentina, Serbia, Turkey, South Africa, and Chile
- 400 tons of grapes from India, Namibia, Peru, Chile, and South Africa
- Over 4,000 tons of bananas from Ecuador
Additional imports included 272 tons of berries, 228 tons of stone and melon fruits, and 2,000 tons of exotic fruits and kiwis.
During inspections, 56 tons of fresh fruit were found to be contaminated with western flower thrips, a quarantined pest. The affected products underwent decontamination procedures.
All other imported fruits that passed quarantine inspection were cleared for entry into the region.
