India has initiated the export of 14 tons of pomegranates to the United States via a sea route, marking a shift from the traditional air freight method, according to a statement from the commerce ministry.
This shipment included 4,620 boxes and arrived on the U.S. East Coast last month. The move to sea freight is seen as a more cost-effective and sustainable option for the industry. The U.S. granted market access for these pomegranates during the 2023 season, facilitating this change in logistics.
