Morocco is expanding its blueberry exports to Southeast Asia, with 610 tons sent to Singapore and Malaysia in MY 2023/24, matching the previous season's results. The 2024/25 campaign started with 55 tons delivered in December. Monitoring in Singapore in February 2025 shows continued growth.
Moroccan exports to Malaysia in MY 2023/24 were more successful than to Singapore, with a 50% increase to 288 tons compared to MY 2022/23. Exports to Singapore decreased by 13%, totaling 322 tons.
Singapore and Malaysia have increased blueberry imports, offering opportunities for exporters like Morocco. In MY 2023/24, Singapore's imports grew by 16%, and Malaysia's by 73%. Morocco is the third-largest supplier to Malaysia and the fourth-largest to Singapore, following China, South Africa, and Peru.
The export period for Moroccan blueberries to these markets is from December to June, peaking from March to May. Spain, the Netherlands, Peru, and China also supply blueberries during this time, with China as the main competitor. In MY 2023/24, China increased its supplies to both markets.
Despite increased competition, Moroccan exports in MY 2023/24 were successful. To maintain or improve this in the current season, exporters may need to focus on berry quality.
