Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region

Baise City is becoming a hub for Chinese mango cultivation

Located in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Baise City has leveraged its geographical challenges to become a notable hub for mango cultivation. The region's subtropical climate is conducive to the growth of tropical fruits, including mangoes, and advancements in agricultural technology alongside logistics enhancements have bolstered the local mango industry.

Huang Baojia, a local mango farmer, manages 80 mu (approx 5 ha) of mango trees and expects an income of 500,000 yuan this year. Huang's experience underscores the economic potential of mango farming in the area. The local government's investment exceeding 32 million yuan in infrastructure has significantly improved production conditions, leading to increased mango yield and quality. Liu Chengjun, the Party secretary of Yufeng Township, highlighted the direct engagement of distributors during the harvest season, which has generated employment opportunities for residents.

The Tianyang agricultural products wholesale market showcases a variety of mangoes, reflecting consumer preferences. Technological research and development have been pivotal in enhancing mango quality, with over 80 new technologies and several new varieties introduced. By the end of 2023, Baise's mango cultivation area reached 1.37 million mu (approx 91,000 ha), producing 1.25 million tonnes annually. The city has also focused on expanding the mango deep processing industry, with 14 enterprises now processing over 300,000 tonnes of mangoes each year.

Efforts in processing have diversified products beyond fresh mangoes, including frozen mangoes, mango slices, and mango sauce. The logistical efficiency for Baise mangoes has attracted businesses, including an agricultural technology company from Shenzhen, highlighting the region's growing significance in the mango supply chain.
