Brazilian fruit industry explores opportunities at New Covent Garden Market

A delegation from the Brazilian Fruit Growers and Exporters Association (Abrafrutas), representing approximately 80% of Brazil's fresh fruit exports, visited the UK to seek new partnerships for selling their produce. During their visit, they toured London's fruit and vegetable market and Buyers Walk. The group, consisting of exporters of a variety of fruits including grapes, mangoes, papayas, ginger, limes, bananas, tropical fruits, and figs, was part of a larger initiative to expand Brazil's fruit exportation footprint.

Among the delegation were Rafael and Maria Fabiano from Campal, Brazil's largest fig producer located in Valinhos, Sao Paulo. They discovered their figs, branded World Fruits, already available for sale in London, which had been shipped from Brazil the day before. Jorge de Souza, Technical and Project Manager at Abrafrutas, expressed admiration for the New Covent Garden Market's (NCGM) operations, highlighting the market's order, quality, range, and cleanliness.

The visit also included a reception hosted by Abrafrutas, offering finger foods, juices, and Brazilian cocktails to importers, buyers, and wholesalers, aiming to foster new business relationships. This initiative underscores the potential for increased collaboration between Brazilian fruit exporters and the UK market.
