The United Kingdom imports fewer Spanish lettuces

According to a report by Hortoinfo based on data from Estacom (Icex-Tax Agency), in 2023, the United Kingdom imported 111.78 million kilos of Spanish lettuce from Spain, i.e. 21.62 million kilos less than the 133.4 million kilos it imported in 2020. UK imports decreased by 16.21%, the highest decrease among the top buyers of Spanish lettuce. German imports fell by 5.8%, and French imports increased by 3.52%.

Spain exported 783.98 million kilos of lettuce in 2023, i.e., 5.75% less than in 2020. However, turnover reached a record 1,008.94 million euros, 32.96% more than in 2014, thanks to an improvement in the average price. The average export price in 2023 was 1.29 euros per kilo. Germany paid the most for Spanish lettuce, with an average price of 1.43 euros per kilo.

Germany was also the largest importer of Spanish lettuce, with 192.11 million kilos. France ranked second with 149.2 million kilos, and the United Kingdom third with 111.78 million kilos. The Netherlands and Italy complete the list of the top five importers. Murcia was the Spanish province with the largest lettuce exports in 2023, followed by Almería and Alicante.
