The northeastern hinterland of Brazil is one of the largest grape producers in the country. A lot of the cultivation is focused around Petrolina, a city located in the interior of Pernambuco, on the banks of the São Francisco River.
Petrolina is considered the grape capital of Brazil , as it has the largest fruit harvest in the country. In 2022, the municipality harvested 236,000 tons of grapes, which represents 16% of the entire national harvest. Furthermore, a large part of the production is used to make fine wines, which have already won awards and international recognition.
