Ukrainian organic products enter international markets

Organic businesses in Ukraine occupy a unique niche. Despite the ongoing war, Ukraine took the second position among exporting countries, following Turkey, in terms of the volume of organic fruit exports, both fresh and dried (excluding citrus and tropical fruits) in 2022.

Organic producers' dedicated efforts sustained their businesses during wartime, making these results possible. Unfortunately, some organic producers were forced to shut down their production.

Currently, agriculture is the main sector contributing to Ukraine's budget. The land area dedicated to organic production in Ukraine constitutes 1%. The goal is to achieve at least 3% of organic land in Ukraine by 2030.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, in collaboration with the NGO "Organic Ukraine" and the State Enterprise "Nazovni," are facilitating the entry of organic products into international markets and the development of export activities. To achieve this, a well-coordinated strategy, investments in production, establishment of export routes, and international partnerships are needed.

Analyzing the organic product market in African countries, diplomats note that it is quite limited, as the buyers are a narrow segment of affluent consumers, comprising around 20% of the population and foreigners.

The world must know about Ukraine not only in the context of war but also as a reliable supplier of healthy, organic food.
