The EU's Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) has reported the illegal entry of a consignment of oranges from Egypt through the Danish territory, without any checks being carried out on the fruit.
The notification was issued at the request of the Danish authorities, who discovered the shipment during an official market inspection at the importing company. The Metro chain proceeded to withdraw the oranges from circulation on August 8, a day after the problem was discovered.
With this withdrawal, the fruit has not reached the supermarket shelves in Sweden where it was destined, nor has it been distributed to other member states of the European Union.
