Mariano Marcos State University tapped for black garlic development

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has asked the Ilocos Norte-based Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) and Takara Inc. to develop the black garlic industry in the Philippines.

MMSU President Shirley Agrupis, JICA Philippines Chief Representative Sakamoto Takema and Takara President Takarada Kimio signed the minutes of the meeting (MoM) for the Sustainable Development Goals Business Verification Survey with the Private Sector for black garlic.

"We are hoping that the survey will help improve livelihood in the country through garlic cultivation and processing, and greatly contribute to attaining national garlic self-sufficiency," Agrupis said.

He said JICA and Takara are long-standing partners of MMSU in producing world-class black garlic for local and international markets, and continue to explore other areas for meaningful collaboration.
