In a new statement, the Peruvian Association of Table Grape Producers (Provid) has demanded the Government urgently restore and maintain order, and unblock roads.
“The chaos caused by criminals and subversives that infiltrated the demonstrations and are attacking and paralyzing the country is hurting the agricultural sector and depleting markets. The economic and productive damage is in the millions. The losses in small agriculture and the damage to the reputation and image of Peru are incalculable. The loss of investment and employment already affects Peruvians."
“That's why, in defense of Peruvians' livelihoods, security, economy, and employment, we demand the Government of President Dina Boluarte declare an emergency in the regions where there are roadblocks and violent acts, such as ICA and Arequipa, among others. We also demand the government immediately unblocks the country's roads and that the National Police and Armed Forces monitor them so that they are not blocked again.”
“We also demand that the Attorney General and the President of the Judiciary fulfill their constitutional role of identifying and punishing in an exemplary manner all those guilty of these attacks against Peru and its democracy.”
“We support the hard work of the National Police and Armed Forces in the framework of their constitutional and legal powers to recover public order,” Provid added.
