Uruguay can now export mandarins to Vietnam

The Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture, and Fisheries (MGAP) announced that starting this year, Uruguay was authorized to export mandarins and its hybrids to Vietnam. This approval was achieved after years of intense negotiations with Vietnam and reaching an agreement on phytosanitary requirements.

As early as 2020, Uruguay had been considered an eligible country for citrus exports; however, it still had to obtain this definitive license. Thus, now Uruguay can export its citrus to Vietnam, China, the United States, and the European Union, as well as other destination markets. This achievement will allow Uruguay to open up new Asian markets for domestic fruit products.

In the coming days, the MGAP will enable the registration of companies interested in exporting to this new destination through its General Directorate of Agricultural Services. This should be reported to Vietnam before the start of the exporting season.
