It is the production season of Guangxi mandarin oranges (Wo orange) from mid-December to next April. Due to climate and environmental reasons, the production season of mandarin oranges in Guangxi is usually about 15-20 days earlier than that in other provinces.
Fangchenggang City, Guangxi, which is geographically close to Vietnam, is one of the production areas of mandarin oranges in Guangxi. It successfully opened up overseas markets this year, and the mandarin orange was exported to Singapore and Vietnam for the first time. FreshPlaza and Mr. He Shenda from Xinyuan Planting and Breeding Professional Cooperative in Fangcheng District, Fangchenggang City, exchanged their views regarding the new production season and export performance.

"As far as mandarin oranges in Guangxi are concerned, due to the drought this year, there are more small fruits, and the proportion of commercial fruits is less than in previous years. However, the sweetness and quality are not much different from the past. In the Fangchenggang production area, due to the relatively more rain, the production season is about a week earlier than before, and the growing of fruit trees is acceptable. Our base in Fangchenggang is planting citrus for the fourth year, and the output has doubled compared to last year.”

"The price at the production area is relatively good this year, and it is estimated that it will increase by about 10%-20% compared with previous years. In the past two years, we have experienced drought, frost, a sluggish citrus market, and insufficient consumption in the overall market. It has picked up. In the production season so far, the overall delivery of goods is not ideal. It is estimated that due to the recent development of the pandemic, people have reduced their shopping. However, in the recent period, the delivery of goods has accelerated. The reason could be the stocking of merchants before the Spring Festival and consumers wanting to have more fruits during the pandemic.”

Talking about the export market, it is the first time that Fangchenggang’s mandarin oranges have been exported on their own. The orders are mainly from Singapore and Vietnam. Mr. He said that the Singaporean market mainly needs first-class fruits, while the Vietnamese market prefers lower-priced fruits.
"As far as the Singapore market is concerned, the order volume is relatively satisfactory. It is now on the eve of the Chinese New Year, which is the peak period for shipments. Our first batch of oranges exported to Singapore arrived before Christmas, and they have been sold out. We are ready to ship again. The demand for mandarin oranges in Singapore has been relatively stable in the past two years." Mr. He introduced.
