The first shipment of Chilean cherries arrived at Guangzhou Jiangnan Fruit Wholesale Market

The first shipment of Chilean cherries this season arrived at the Jiangnan Fruit Wholesale Market in Guangzhou on December 9 and opened for sale.

This cargo ship carrying different brands of cherries contained a total of 147 containers, mainly Royal Dawn and Santina cherries. Among them, the first container of the Frusan brand was reserved by Guangzhou Qinguo Import and Export Trade Co., Ltd. William Tam, the chief representative of the company's international business department, which mainly manages supply chain affairs, spoke to Freshplaza.

"Starting from December 9th, Chilean seaborne cherries arrive one after another. Frusan's first container of cherries has different specifications, among which SJD's Royal Dawn is the majority. Take the 5KG JD package as an example, the hardness and taste of the current arrivals are relatively ideal, which is not much different from the arrival in the same period last year. The sweetness of cherries is mostly 16-17 degrees. On the day of opening, about 75% of the whole container of Frusan cherries sold out, of which 2.5KGX2 (two-in-one) package is quite popular and it is sold out completely.” Regarding the current situation of shipments, William said that the speed of shipments is not as fast as last year, and many buyers are still in the wait-and-see stage.

"Our company expects to import about 400 containers of Chilean cherries this year. The early arrival of the Lunar New Year is a huge challenge for the cherry sector. It is estimated that more than 20,000 containers of Chilean cherries will arrive in the Chinese market this year, an increase of 20%-25% compared with last year. The variety has not changed much from the past, and Santina and Lapins still occupy a relatively high proportion.”

"At present, we are more concerned about customs clearance and logistics. Due to the prevention and control measures for COVID, many containers were blocked at customs last year, and it took longer to clear up, which affected the quality and price of cherries. From the current point of view, the customs clearance is relatively normal, and there is no problem of slow blockage.” In addition, William mentioned that with the assistance of Shenzhen Changhong Logistics Co., Ltd., the unblocking of the containers gets better. Changhong Logistics Co., Ltd. is an enterprise on the white list of fruit imports by Shenzhen Customs. Its customs clearance of goods is faster, and the company can pay taxes according to the actual selling price of the goods.

Guangzhou Qinguo Import and Export Trade Co., Ltd. has 13 years of experience in fruit import and export. It works with a variety of imported and domestic fruits. Its sales channels include wholesale markets, supermarkets, fruit stores, and online e-commerce, and its sales network is all over China.
