The value of fruit culture from Bahia has reached r$ 4.5 billion. The encompasses 21 products that are important for the economy of Bahia and that, in 2021, saw their value grow for the third consecutive year.
In 2021, fruit growing in Bahia generated R$ 4.5 billion. Last year, the state accounted for 8.8% of the value of national fruit production (R$ 51.3 billion), with the third largest amount, behind only São Paulo (R$ 14.4 billion or 28.0% of the total) and Pará (R$ 7.2 billion or 14.0% of the total).
The main fruit growing municipality in Bahia is Juazeiro, which had a 23.0% increase in the value generated between 2020 and 2021, reaching R$ 816.4 million. The city remains the 3rd largest in the country in terms of fruit production, behind Igarapé-Miri/PA (R$ 1.6 billion) and Petrolina/PE (R$ 1.6 billion).
Juazeiro and Casa Nova have mango as their main fruit product. Bom Jesus da Lapa is the Brazilian municipality with the highest harvest and the highest production value of bananas (186,028 tons and R$ 372.1 million, respectively).
In Bahia, in general, the mango crop had positive results between 2020 and 2021. The state is the largest producer of the fruit, in harvested volume, and sustained the highest production value in the country.
