Close to 99 million dollars reached blueberry exports in La Libertad, so far this year, projecting the growth of this activity by 20% compared to the previous year, reported Angela Maza, director of the Faculty of Business of the Private University of the North (UPN).
The blueberry, considered the first agricultural export product according to SUNAT, leads its production in La Libertad with 7,580 hectares of cultivation and greater output to markets such as the United States, Holland, Hong Kong, England and China.
This sector will boost the economic growth of the region in 2022, which concentrates between 55,000 and 75,000 workers who carry out the activity in La Libertad. “The export of blueberries contributes to the generation of employment in the communities, increasing their income and improving their quality of life,” said the specialist.
