According to the ENIS 2022 data, in the 2022-2023 agricultural campaign, the area planted with potatoes will be reduced by 26,645 hectares in Peru. This means that, according to these same data, 9 of the 10 regions that led the production of this food in 2021 will plant less potatoes this campaign.
This way, in Puno, the number one potato producer, the planting intention will fall by 2,076 ha and will stand at 61,681 ha, which is equivalent to a contraction of 3.3% in one year. In Huánuco, the second potato producer in the country, planting will decrease by 9,463 ha, this is a loss of one fifth of the planted area (20.5%) compared to last season’s figure.
The same scenario is then repeated in La Libertad (-5.6%), Cusco (-5.9%), Junín (-18.5%), Cajamarca (-6.8%), Ayacucho (-2.5%). ), Arequipa (-7.1%) and Huancavelica (-0.7%).
Apurímac is the only region that shows a positive result and goes from 23,122 hectares in the previous agricultural campaign to 23,571 hectares in the current one. In other words, the area increases by 449 more hectares (0.9%).
