Guyana Agri Minister Mustapha encourages planting of root crops

In a meeting with riverine farmers in Region Seven (Cuyuni – Mazaruni) on Wednesday, Minister of Agriculture Zulfikar Mustapha encouraged them to produce root crops such as cassava and sweet potatoes and promised to secure markets for the staples and their by-products. During the meeting, Mustapha told the farmers that a ready market exists as there is demand for root crops in several Caribbean Community (CARICOM) states.

He told the farmers that not only will the government work along with them to develop a processing facility in the region, but the government will also help to package their products and sell them.
