Schrijvershof in the Netherlands is near the start of their Kent mango by air season from Mexico

Mango by air for Schrijvershof ready to be picked

Due to the prolonged drought in the majority of Mexico, the development of the fruit was delayed for some weeks. According to Don Jésus Soliz, producer of the mangoes destined for Schrijvershof, the selective picking for air shipments will start within the next couple of days.

In general, the widespread drought in Mexico is having a negative impact on the yields of many products including limes and mangoes. For both products, the volumes for export are much smaller than normal and also the sizing comes out quite small.

On the positive side, the quality of the mangoes is excellent, benefitting from the hot and dry conditions.

The Kent mango, produced by Don Jésus Soliz and his 3 sons, exported by Aztec Fruits, had some promising trial runs last season. Based on last years’ experience and the quality support given by Schrijvershof, the expectations are high.

Mr. Sjoerd Meijer, account manager mango at Schrijvershof stated: “We cannot wait to get started and are excited about the feedback we are getting from the fields. Unfortunately, due to the travel restrictions, we couldn’t see the first departures ourselves but we are being kept up to date continuously with videos and photos. We expect the first arrival around the 29th this month."
