Chilean cherry exports to China set new record

Data released by ASOEX on March 24 show that Chilean cherry exports exceeded 350,000 tons during the recently concluded 2020/2021 export season, seeing a year-on-year increase of 54.4%, of which exports to China exceeded 320,000 tons, seeing a year-on-year increase of 55%.

At the association’s online analysis meeting on cherry exports on March 24, Gonzalo Salinas, an analyst of the fresh fruit export industry, said that due to the continuous increase in the planted area and abundant rainfall last year, the country’s cherry exports set an all-time high in the current season.

Salinas said that China is one of Chile's most important destination markets. Products exported to China accounted for 91.4% of the country’s total cherry exports, and many inland cities in China have great consumption potential. Tagle, chairman of the Cherry Committee of ASOEX, said that China has always been an important target market for the growing industry. The record-high exports against the Covid-19 pandemic show the huge potential of this market.
