The Brazilian mango season is currently in full swing. "The start of the season was difficult, but the market has now improved," says Bert Westera of Sweet Fruits S.A. from Emmen, which is part of Sweet Fruits Brasil. "I don't expect many changes on the market in the coming weeks. Unfortunately there are quite a few lower quality mangoes on the market and that also affects the market for good mangoes."
"Brazil is currently sending substantial volumes. We will still receive Keith for about three weeks, the supply from Kent will continue until the end of the year and the Palmer, which is the most important variety for us, we supply all year round," said the importer. "There is hardly any competition from other countries. Spain is edging more and more onto the European market with Osteen mangoes, but that season is only short. Now the first mangoes from Peru are flown in. The mangoes from Peru are unmatchable in terms of colour, but in terms of taste, the Brazilian remain the best."
"Our supplier in Brazil is currently busy with the construction of a new warehouse," says Bert, who started the Dutch sales office in 2014 together with Manfred van der Vlag. "We are pleased with how the company is developing. Our head office in Europe handles sales in Portugal, Spain, Italy and the South of France. We sell from the Netherlands to the other European countries, including Russia, and that is progressing satisfactorily."
