Foodstuffs to be processed and distributed to the needy

Berliner Tafel collects 85 tons of food at Fruit Logistica

The Berliner Tafel -a local food bank- collected 85 tons of fruit and vegetables at the "Fruit Logistica" trade fair. "This is a strong signal for our values: sustainability and participation", said Tafel chairwoman Sabine Werth. According to the report, around 350 volunteers were on duty after the end of the fair on Friday evening, with the support of the German Federal Agency for Technical Relief, the voluntary fire brigade and the German Red Cross.

Food is processed and distributed to the needy
The food is to be sorted over the weekend for later distribution, initially at Westhafen. According to the plan, the Berliner Tafel's children and youth team will process perishable fruit into jam and fill it into around 2,100 jars. The food will go to institutions such as Berliner Kältehilfe and the city mission. The rest is to be distributed over the next few days via the distribution points of the 'Laib und Seele' campaign.
