Sri Lanka reduced import tax on potatoes

By decree of the Sri Lankan government, the special commodity levy on imported potatoes was reduced from Rs. 50 per kilogram to Rs. 25 per kilogram, effective Wednesday 25th of December.

The Secretary of Ministry of Finance, SR Attygalle, said the import tax on potatoes has been reduced as an alternative to the rising prices of vegetables. He said the revision of import levies now will not be a problem for local potato farmers since the local potato harvest will be available in the market in February.
