Things have calmed down at Belgian wholesaler, Groothandel Michel. They had a reasonably busy Sinterklaas period. “We sold quite a lot of mandarins and clementines in recent weeks," says Stefan Bosmans.
“We currently have an ample supply of Spanish citrus. But it has been challenging. Quite a lot less was harvested this year. The quality is, however, good. Prices are very stable too. This year, they are at a higher level than last year."

“We expect Christmas sales to start in a week. The demand for soft fruit and exotic products will increase again. There is usually great demand for strawberries, red currants, and raspberries during the festive season."
"We offer Belgian and Dutch strawberries year-round. We have seen the demand for imported strawberries decreasing every year. The Belgian and Dutch products have notably better quality. It, therefore, does not surprise us that our clients prefer these strawberries," continues Stefan.
“The demand for mangos is also on the rise again. The supply of this product is, however, limited at the moment. We currently have mangos from Peru, but this is a difficult market. The limited supplies have translated into high prices."
“Christmas is a busy time for us. It is, however, not the same as it used to be. We have noticed that consumers shop more in supermarkets than at greengrocers. That is a pity," concludes Stefan.
