On Friday, 1 November, Fruitport officially opened its new office on the Handelsweg in Ridderkerk, Netherlands. A nice gift for the third anniversary of the Portuguese importer-exporter. "The choice of the Rotterdam area seemed obvious to me," says the new manager Genesis Emers, "We are now at the epicenter of the European fruit trade."

Much still needs to be done at the new Ridderkerk location. "We are now building the company from the ground up, a great challenge that gives me great satisfaction," says Genesis. “At the moment we only have the office and we leave the logistical support to a specialist. This allows us to concentrate on expanding our business in the Netherlands."
Rotterdam is not only the center of the fruit trade but also a strategic location for Fruitport in Europe. “With the location in Ridderkerk we can import our fruit from all over the world into the Netherlands and send it to our warehouse in Poland and other destinations in Europe. In addition, much of the European trade from the head office in Loures, Portugal, was already being orchestrate through the Netherlands."

Not only does Fruitport want to use the new office for importing and exporting fruit, it also sees opportunities within the Dutch market. “80% of our trade already goes to the supermarkets. We want to further increase our presence here on the market and become an important player. As a result of our customer focus and the service that we provided, we think we can make a difference. In addition, with our own private label WOW we have a range of Brazilian products such as mango, papaya and limes. The physical presence helps us to serve our customers."
