Spanish province of Murcia supplying organic lemons to Coca Cola

Coca Cola, the soft drinks multinational, has chosen the Region of Murcia as a supplier of lemons for the production of its brand Honest, the best-selling organic teas in the United States, which will be launched soon in Europe.

Last week, the founder of Honest, Seth Goldman, visited two of the Murcian farms that will supply the raw material, as reported by the director of the Interprofessional Association of Lemon and Grapefruit (Ailimpo), José Antonio García, who accompanied him during that visit. The entrepreneur met with the producers in order to learn more about the crop.

Specifically, Goldman toured the lemon plantations of the Hacienda del Pino farm, located in El Algar, Cartagena, and the Carmina farm, of Santomera. Both farms are owned by two agricultural companies that produce certified organic lemons and which are already part of the exclusive group of Coca Cola's suppliers.

Launch in Europe
Honest is a brand with twenty years of history in the United States which was acquired by The Coca-Cola Company in 2011. It is currently the leading brand of organic teas in the United States and has recently begun its expansion in Europe, as reported by Coca-Cola on its website.

The lemon juice that Murcia will supply to Honest will be used to elaborate its range of teas with lemon and lemonade, according to the director of Ailimpo. In any case, it is still early to say how much of an impact the demand from the Coca-Cola brand will have on the production of Murcian lemons.
