CocoBomb has been entirely focused on importing and distributing young coconuts from Thailand for the past few years. This young Dutch company is now ready for a new chapter. CocoBomb has recently started importing brown coconuts from the Ivory Coast too. This product is in addition to the young coconuts.
Their first containers of ginger from China have also arrived in the Netherlands. Added to this, the company also sells other diverse, frozen products on the European market. Their range has expanded. Due to this, CocoBomb decided to change its name to Explosive Foods.
“Our company has grown, and our assortment has expanded. These factors are why we decided to choose a new name. This new name is relevant to more than just coconut-related products," says Daniël Penturij of Explosive Foods.
"It is, however, the intention that CocoBomb will remain as a brand name for all the coconut products in our assortment. In recent years, we have discovered that selling exotic products suits us well. It is also for this reason that we decided to expand into this product range."
Nam Hom coconuts
Young coconuts are still Explosive Foods' main product. “Demand for young coconuts is still very high at the moment. This, despite the recent winter weather. We see demand increasing yearly. If demand remains at this level, 2019 will be a promising year. There are two peak times for demand - holidays and the summer months," says Penturij.
“The young coconuts in our assortment are Nam Hom coconuts. These only grow in certain areas in Thailand. These coconuts are known for their sweet taste, making them a firm favorite among consumers."
“The brown coconuts we import are available in both size 40 as well as size 50. We deliberately chose coconuts from the Ivory Coast. They are high-quality, popular products," continues Daniël.
"Currently, one of our most important sales markets is the Scandinavian countries. We have only had brown coconuts in our range since November 2018. We still have to run a whole year with this product. However, we expect a peak in demand in the summer."
Chinese ginger
The company's first containers of ginger from China arrived in the Netherlands in March. "Ginger has been a popular product in Europe for many years. We expect this popularity to only grow in the coming years. This is why we decided to include this product in our assortment."
"We are confident; based on the first containers that have arrived. Besides fresh products, we also have different frozen products in our range. These include pitahaya puree, coconut water, and coconut flesh. We sell these mainly to European juice and smoothie producers," concludes Daniël.
