Christiaan van Ravenswaaij:

"Good mango market at start of Ivory Coast season"

Van Ravenswaaij from Veenendaal started off the Ivory Coast mango season with the arrival of various containers of Amelie. "We will receive the second arrival of Amelie next week. This means we will be doing Easter with Amelie mangos. A very tasty mango, although the colour is more green compared to a Kent," says Christiaan van Ravenswaaij.

"We will then continue the season with Kent. They started harvest yesterday and we expect the first ones on the market at the end of week 17," says the importer. "Airfreight is also starting up now. We expect the first shipment at the end of the week. The market for mangoes is very good compared to last year because Peru is almost entirely off the market. The quality of the current Kent is also slightly lacking."

A clear trend, according to Christiaan, is that the growers in Ivory Coast pay a lot of attention to the necessary certificates, hardly use crop protection substances and meet social certification such as Grasp and Smeta.

Van Ravenswaaij carries the mangoes in the brands NKLO and REINE and focuses mainly on Dutch exporters with mango sales. Traditionally the Ivory Coast mango season last five or six weeks. "This is when the Ivory Coast season comes to an end and the other West African countries start up."
