Exotic fruits are harvested, picked and packaged at the source

Kipepeo welcomes first tropical fruits from new bio & fair project in Indonesia

This week, Kipepeo  has welcomed the first fresh, tropical fruits, coming from an Indonesian organic & fair trade certified project from the island of Java. These are products of small farmers, in this case about 300 farmers from the provinces of Magelang, Purworejo, Wonogiri and Lumajang, says company CEO Markus Buban.

The fruits are collected centrally in Purworejo, picked and packaged and exported out of Jakarta. "Pineapples, Kirana Gold baby bananas, snake fruit or salak and mangosteen are currently available in ever larger quantities," says Buban. The Indonesian product range is rounded off according to availability with passion fruit, dragon fruit and red delicatessen bananas.

Social commitment
The fresh fruits are, so to speak, a further development of a project that has been producing and selling coconut blossom sugar, also bio & fair, for years. Extensive improvements in the living conditions of the smallholders involved have already been achieved through the fair trade premiums. There were, for example, organic seeds distributed, a kindergarten was built, workshops for the farmers were held and insurance was bought for the farmers' families.
