This year's yield is almost 17 percent above average

Apple harvest in northern Germany is satisfactory

The northern German fruit farmers are quite satisfied: The apple harvest is almost complete and this year, it is very good. There is also good news for consumers.

A harvest of 300,000 tonnes of apples for the important Niederelbe region alone is forecast. According to estimates by the World Apple Pear Association, 12.6 million tonnes are expected for the whole of Europe. That would be one of the highest returns of the past 20 years.

German farmers are likely to bring in a rich harvest. This year, the apple harvest will be 1.1 million tonnes - almost 17 percent above the average of the past ten years, said the Federal Statistical Office recently.
