Aten Export: Caribbean tropical fruits global thanks to air-transportation

After a long experience in the management of international cooperation projects, two Italians (Nazzareno Mileto and Alessandro Corriero) decided to settle in the Dominican Republic. There, they founded a company aiming at supporting the small and medium local exotic fruit producers that did not have the resources necessary to directly promote their products on the international markets.

“Aten Export was founded in early 2018. We select and promote the best exotic fruit producers from the Caribbean island and the Eastern vegetable producers from the Dominican Republic. We grant them reliability, the respect of the phytosanitary standards and the consistency and punctuality of the deliveries".

We can offer quality products at competitive prices thanks to the optimal climate for a year-lasting production and the inexistence of customs duties with the EU countries - plus the lowest transportation costs in the Latin American region.

Exotic fruits:

  • Avocado
  • Mango

Eastern Vegetables:

  • Short and Long Thai Chilli Pepper
  • Habanero Chilli Pepper (own production)
  • Chinese and Thai aubergine

The entrepreneur continues, “Producers from the Dominican Republic can export at zero custom tariffs on the European and North American markets – other than having relatively low air transportation costs. The island has 9 international airports connected to the whole fruit and vegetable trade world. It has over 53 tons of references, thanks to the 8.735 producers, for a total value of 1.780 million euros.

This plot of Habanero will be ready for harvesting within one month.

At the moment, a network of 30 producers cooperates with Aten, each with farms of 15 hectares, at least. The revenue expectations are around 250.000 euros, for the first year.

But how do you work with Aten from Europe?

Mileto answers, “Easy. First, you have to visit our website and choose the goods you want to buy. Send us a request for the transportation of 700 kg minimum of fresh and ready-to-eat products. Then, you should agree with the terms of delivery, of deposit and of payment. Once the goods have been received, checked and accepted, then you can proceed to the full payment. In this way, our partners can happily manage the orders. After all, we ask the consumers to choose and thus to trust us, and therefore we trust them back, within reasonable limits.
