Carrefour Group recently organized a global "Act for Food" activity and continued to improve connections between farms and supermarkets through the direct purchase of 20 tons of red heart dragon fruit from Yuanmou County in Yunnan.
During the "Act for Food" activity, Carrefour signed a direct purchase agreement with Yuanmou Happy Fields Agricultural Development Co., Ltd. They also organized a brief ceremony for the first truck to depart from the production area. The first shipment of 20 tons of dragon fruit left on September 21st, and headed for 39 Carrefour stores in Chengdu, Chongqing, and Kunming.
The direct link-up between farms and supermarkets is an innovative method that improves efficiency in modern retail. It allows farmers to deliver directly to supermarkets. China currently has 600 agricultural cooperations with around 340 thousand member farmers who provide fresh fruit and vegetables to Carrefour.
