U.S. mango handlers vote to continue national research program

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) has announced the results of the latest referendum on the National Mango Board. The vote, held from Oct. 22 to Nov. 12, 2025, resulted in 94.12 per cent of eligible first handlers and importers supporting continuation of the board's research and promotion program.

Eligibility to vote required handling or importing 500,000 pounds or more of fresh mangos during the period from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2024. Under the Mango Promotion, Research, and Information Order, USDA must conduct a continuance referendum every five years, or earlier if requested by at least 10 per cent of eligible participants.

The program operates under the Commodity Promotion, Research, and Information Act of 1996. Its stated purpose is to support activities related to research, market maintenance, and market development for fresh mangos in the United States. AMS oversees 22 industry-funded research and promotion boards established under similar authorities, providing oversight of budgeting and compliance.

More information on the National Mango Board and its activities is available through AMS and the board's official website.
